AVSAR Volunteers is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping expand and improve the services of grassroots organizations working to improve the health and eduction of those living in poverty-stricken areas throughout the world. AVSAR recruits volunteers from around the world to leverage global manpower and brain power to “help where help is needed.”
The organization was founded by Dr. Ashish Goyal after he volunteered in the slums of in Mumbai, India. He donated one year of his time and $15,000 to start the organization at the age of 27. Since then he has finished his journey to become a practicing physician, and in 2012 he donated an additional $50,000 to help AVSAR Volunteers relaunch in a new and improved fashion to expand AVSAR’s efforts globally.
AVSAR aims to inspire a greater sense of volunteerism and increase access to quality healthcare and education services in underprivileged areas. AVSAR researches the efforts and missions of grassroots nonprofit organizations and partners with those showing an ability to scale their efforts and provide quality volunteer experiences.
Volunteers are recruited from around the world and go through a rigorous application process. Once accepted, “Team AVSAR” provides unparalleled support including pre-volunteer information, airport pickup, local accommodations with Western-style amenities, computers, internet access, cell phone rentals and a 2-3 day orientation covering everything from “What it means to be a volunteer” to local safety, working through cultural barriers, and how to take a taxi, bus or train to arrive at the door of their partner non-profit organization.
Our long-term vision is to connect the efforts of non-profit organizations around the world through a network of information and tools created by AVSAR and its volunteers.
